Welcome to stage 1 – acclimatising in Vancouver. We had a smooth journey. Mild panic when told the container with oversized luggage had jammed in the hold but an hour and half later, all reunited.

The bike boxes withstood the flight – big thanks to On Yer Bike and Evans. The bikes are assembled, some fine tuning courtesy of BSP Bicycle Spirts, ready to ‘roll out’ tomorrow.

So, to reflections on Vancouver – enormous change since I hitch-hiked here in 1983. A vibrant city encouraging growth; a sense of optimism and opportunity; spacious, calm and verdant. A city that seems to embrace its dramatic setting – snow capped mountains and urban beaches; an ‘outdoor’ city.

The urbanista will say more!

My feelings are captured by the words printed on the bottom of my first take away espresso – start before you’re ready.
